Profile

My name is Robel Birhanu, and I have embarked on an incredible journey from the world of computer engineering to fulfilling my true passion: filmmaking. I was born on November 8, 1994, in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. After studying computer engineering at Mekelle University for five years, I realized that my true passion lay in the world of filmmaking. As a freshman in 2014, I started learning filmmaking online through platforms like YouTube, immersing myself in tutorials and educational videos. Driven by my newfound passion, I began creating music videos for local artists in Mekelle. Despite working with rental cameras for two years, I saved up enough money, with the support of my father, to purchase my first camera—a Canon 7D Mark II. This marked a significant milestone, allowing me to delve deeper into cinematography and express my creativity with greater precision. In 2018, after graduating in computer engineering, I made a bold decision. Instead of searching for a job, I took a leap of faith and established my own production company named Rob Film Production. With just one DSLR camera, zero funds, and limited connections, I faced numerous challenges. However, I remained determined to pursue my passion. Through dedication and perseverance, I directed music videos for well-known artists in Ethiopia and created impactful commercial videos for various brands. Each project became an opportunity for growth and recognition within the industry. Today, I am incredibly grateful for the journey I have undertaken. The combination of my technical knowledge from computer engineering and my creative skills in filmmaking has shaped me into a unique filmmaker. I have had the privilege of directing multiple music videos for renowned artists and producing captivating commercial videos.
